Elders Program Specialist

INFORMATION
Department: Tribal Family & Youth Services
Type of Position: Non-Exempt
Location of Work: Juneau
Salary Grade(s): 8-9 ($26.97 - 38.69 DOE)
Hours of Work: M-F, 8:00am – 4:30pm

PURPOSE
The Elders Program Specialist will plan, develop, and implement wellness and support activities for Tribal Elders and their families to provide support and meet identified program goals and objectives. Incumbent is responsible for case management services, elder victimization support, participation in community meetings and will provide referrals to other resources as identified. Incumbent will work with Tlingit and Haida departments to provide a one-door approach to services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Plan and create a system supporting Tribal Elders nutrition, safety, wellness, and support
• Plan, develop and implement health, wellness, and support groups
• Design and deliver community outreach to support advocacy and prevention activities for Tribal Elder wellness
• Provide support to Tribal Elders through case management and financial services and referrals
• Provide cultural competency training for non-native partners and service providers
• Compile statistical and narrative reports on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual basis and as requested
• Maintain confidential case records, compile statistical information, and meet all reporting requirements
• Distribute, receive, and review applications to ensure they are complete and forward to appropriate personnel
• Other duties as assigned

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge of Tribal Elder community needs, problems, and resources in diverse cultures
• Ability to collaborate, coordinate, implement, and advocate for Tribal Elders and families
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to develop and present clear reports and meet deadlines
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships
• Protect and maintain confidentiality of clients

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
• Associates Degree
• 2 years’ experience providing direct services
• Experience implementing and facilitating groups
• Valid Driver’s License

Substitution for Degree
• 4 years’ experience providing direct services

UNUSUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR RESTRICTIONS
The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs. Travel on small aircraft or ferry may be required.
