General Ledger Accountant

Purpose: The General Ledger Accountant for Tribal Government will be responsible for managing and overseeing the general ledger accounting functions for the Tribe. This individual will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and efficient financial operations.
Essential Functions. An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:
Analyze general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and prepare detailed reconciliations explaining account balances.
Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
Collaborate with various departments to ensure accurate coding of financial transactions.
Conduct regular audits to identify discrepancies and ensure compliance with tribal policies.
Process expense transfer requests and assist with accounting queries and reconciliations.
Allocate monthly insurance and other costs appropriately.
Generate monthly reports for Program Managers and quarterly reports for the Executive Committee, along with detailed reports upon request.
Provide support for accounting software issues, resolving errors and documenting solutions.
Stay updated on accounting standards relevant to tribal government operations.
Assist with annual audits and implement audit recommendations.
Assist in budget preparation and monitoring, providing financial insights to management.
Assists in the preparation of financial reports for tribal council meetings and external stakeholders.
Other duties as assigned.

Experience working in governmental accounting, particularly with tribal governments, is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications (education, experience, skills):
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
Three years of professional level experience as an Accountant
Two years experience with an automated accounting system (sage).
Preferred Qualifications (education, experience, skills):
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
