Deputy Director

Department: Tidal Network
Exemption Status: Exempt
Pay Grade(s): 18-21 ($139,132.50+ DOE)
Reports To: Director, Tidal Network


Purpose: The Deputy Director supports the Tidal Network Director in developing and operating Tlingit & Haida’s broadband department. This role manages departmental staff, daily operations, oversees program implementation and grant reporting, and provides leadership in departmental initiatives. The Deputy Director collaborates with the Director to identify funding opportunities and maintain effective communication with stakeholders to advance Tidal Network’s mission of improving broadband access and digital equity.
Essential Functions. An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:
• Coordinate cross-functional teams to exchange ideas and promote cross-team learning
• Support the Director in setting strategic goals and ensuring their implementation aligns with organizational objectives
• Develop and implement operational policies, procedures, and systems to enhance efficiency and compliance
• Lead cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration and promoting organizational learning
• Oversee multiple projects, ensuring they remain on track, within scope, and on budget
• Develop comprehensive project plans, monitoring progress and addressing challenges
• Coordinate internal and external resources, collaborating with staff from various departments
• Prepare and oversee project documentation, providing regular updates to senior leadership
• Support financial and budgetary oversight
• Assist in the preparation and management of departmental budgets
• Analyze financial reports, seeking opportunities to minimize expenses and optimize funding
• Assist in compliance with financial reporting requirements for grants and funding sources
• Manage departmental staff, providing guidance, mentorship, and support
• Oversee recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and staff training processes
• Foster a positive work environment and address personnel concerns to enhance team performance
• Provide input on grant applications and funding opportunities to support broadband initiatives
• Assist in overseeing compliance with network standards and regulations
• Establish and maintain relationships with Tribal entities, community organizations, and government agencies
• Represent Tidal Network at public meetings, forums, and stakeholder events
• Serve as a primary point of contact for internal and external communications
• Handle special projects as assigned by the Director
• Travel to communities as needed to oversee projects and build relationships
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

• Familiarity with Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian cultures


Minimum Qualifications (education, experience, skills):
• Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Business Administration or related field, or equivalent work experience
• Five (5) years of professional experience managing projects and/or programs
Preferred Qualifications (education, experience, skills):


• Master’s Degree in Business Administration or related field
• One (1) year of professional experience managing telecommunications projects and/or programs
• Six (6) or more years of professional experience managing projects and/or programs

• The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs.


Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job:
• Some travel may be required on small aircraft or ferry.
• Certain positions at Tlingit and Haida may have exposure to certain hazardous materials or conditions. The supervisor will review these if applicable.
