POSITION DESCRIPTION
Family Court Services Investigator
INFORMATION
Type of Position: Non-Exempt
Location of Work: Juneau, AK
Salary Grade(s): 10-11 ($33.29+ DOE)
PURPOSE
To provide impartial assessments of families to the Tribal Court by providing positive adjustments in separation, divorce, proposed guardianship or adoption cases, while maintaining the best interests of the child(ren).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Maintain strict confidentiality, impartiality, professional boundaries, and ensure participants rights to privacy
• Respond to court requests of investigations for families filing an adoption, guardianship, or child custody
• Compile data to prepare and submit accurate and timely reports
• Perform case reviews
• Conduct family interviews
• Conduct collateral contact interviews
• Attend court hearings
• Review case files to ensure completion
• Order of records prior to hearings
• Answer questions relative to court policies and procedures, case status, and court records
• Develop positive working relationships with other tribal and local service providers to assist with educational efforts
• Other duties as assigned

• Ability to maintain accurate, complete case files
• Sufficient prioritization and time management
• Ability to effectively communicate, motivate others, and work collaboratively with diverse groups of people with varying perspectives, experience, and expertise
• Ability and willingness to learn and integrate new technologies and methodologies to efficiently perform responsibilities
• Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong inter-personal skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products
• Ability to work flexible hours

• Understanding of the Tribes mission and culture and the ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with staff and clients in all circumstances
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
• Bachelor’s degree in related field
• 2 years’ experience in related field
• Valid Driver’s License; clean driving record
Substitution for degree
• High school diploma and
• 3 years’ experience in related field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
• Master’s degree in related field
• 2 years’ supervision experience
UNUSUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR RESTRICTIONS
The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs. Travel on small aircraft or ferry may be required.
